Sober Stories was founded on the belief that shared stories are the most transformative medium for change.
We are a multimedia platform dedicated to the power of really, really great stories, connecting folks all across the "sober" spectrum with storytelling of hope, honesty, inspiration, and community.
This week on Sober Stories, we had the opportunity to interview Christina Galbato. (S01/E002) Christina Galbato is a social media influencer, online educator, and digital marketing expert. In our conversation with Christina, we talked about her experience grieving a breakup while sober, what it was like to share about her sobriety on such a public platform, the Mexico trip that led her to change, and so much more.

”One morning I was on a run, and I was looking around, and as corny as this sounds, I stopped and looked around and thought ‘I can hear babies crying, I can hear the helicopter overhead, I can see the sun glisten on the water, I can smell the fresh grass… it was this feeling of my senses coming alive again like I had been living in shades of gray for so long and I finally felt the saturation come back in my life.”
“I have spent a long time painting the outside of my house and making the outside of my house look pretty without paying attention to the insides. I’ve portrayed this image, like my life is really great for a long time without talking about too much of what was happening on the inside.
But I think it just makes everyone feel a lot closer realizing that no matter what someone’s life looks like from the outside, there’s always shit going on. I just think that regardless of what you have or what your life looks like, or how much money you make or what you surround yourself with, internal problems are internal problems and they’re all universal.”
“Feeling your feeling is a ride! I knew going into it that this was going to be the first time that I needed to feel my feelings. I really went into this with just like, ‘what if I took a week off from work? I feel I just need to sit in it, like I’m sitting in dirty water and I just need to feel it and sense into where I’m feeling it in my body and breathe through it and just not mask it with anything.
So I was very cognizant of not watching a ton of Netflix or not being on social media a lot. I would purposely sit in it because I knew that if I didn’t do that, it was going to come up later to bite me and I wanted to fully move on. So I took a lot of baths. I ate a lot of food that I like, ate a lot of ice cream. And cried a lot and cried whenever I felt like it, and just allowing myself, giving myself the permission to feel anything that I was feeling, whether it was anger, sadness, whatever, was very helpful for me in the whole process of it.”
